Colorado law exempts all sales of precious metal bullion and coins from state sales tax (Colorado Revised Statutes 39-26-706). The statute defines coins as monetized bullion or other money made of gold, silver, platinum or palladium that is or was legal tender, and bullion as refined precious metal whose value depends on its metal content rather than its form. Jewelry and commemoratives are not covered by the exemption.
In practice: an Eagle, a Maple Leaf, a bar or a roll of 90% silver carries no sales tax at the shop, on any size order. That is a meaningful saving on every transaction compared with taxable purchases.
